Summary
Born in Grimsby, Humberside and deafened at 18 months from scarlet fever. Attended the Royal School for the Deaf in Derby. Won the gold medal in running for Great Britain in the 1928 World Silent Games, a silver medal in the long jump, and a bronze in the 100-meter relay. Two medals at the 1930 European Games for the Deaf were followed by two bronzes in the 1931 World Silent Games and a gold in the 1935 World Silent Games. Very involved in the British Deaf and Dumb Association, later the British Deaf Association. Died from a combination of diabetes, kidney failure, Parkinson's disease, and thrombosis.
