Summary
Born at Lafayette, IN; deafened at 8 by meningitits. Indiana Institution for the Education of the Deaf, 1872-1881, then Gallaudet college 1881-1886 (B.A.); M.A. from Gallaudet in 1895. Purdue University's first football coach, 1887. Appointed a teacher in the Indiana Institution from 1888 on, and added librarian duties there from 1890. Writer for hearing and deaf newspapers; edited The Deaf World 1900-1902. Partial autobiography is From My Reliquary of Memories (1943).
