Summary
Probably born deaf, in Cheetham, Manchester. Manchester Institution for the Deaf and Dumb until 1861 and then pursued arts tudies on his own. Exhibited many works at the Royal Manchester Institution and at Whaite's Art Gallery. Worked as a letter carrier for the Post Office from 1899 (aged 53) until retirement to Salford. Also contributed articles to newspapers, some illustrated with his own woodcuts.
