Summary
Born at Jeffersonville, IN; deafened at 2 by measles. Entered the Indiana Institution for Deaf-Mutes at age 10, then went to Gallaudet College 8 years later, graduating 1885. Returned to the Indiana school as a teacher for many years. Active in St. Alban's Mission for Deaf-Mutes and in other deaf social and charitable activities. Special agent for Washington Life Insurance Co. at a time when deaf people found it difficult to get life insurance.
