Summary
Born at Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The sole deaf participant at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia; won the silver medal in the 200-meter breaststroke swimming event. Nicknamed the "Silent Torpedo". Also participated in the 2004 Olympics but did not win any medals. Winner of two gold medals in the 2005 Deaflympics. Founded the Parkin-Widex Swimming Academy to teach swimming to both deaf and hearing children. Deaf wife was Ingrid Parkin (q.v.).
