Born at Windsor, NS; attended the Halifax School for the Deaf 1927-1938. Became a fur finisher for a furrier company in Halifax 1939-1945, then married Malcolm "Mack" Buchanan, also deaf, and raised a family. Continued to work as a fur finisher for a total of 45 years before retirement.
