Summary
Born at Edmonton, AB and deaf at age 3 from meningitis; Mackay Institution for Protestant Deaf-Mutes 1955-1956, Alberta School for the Deaf 1956-1966, then a beauty school for a training program in hairdressing; worked as a hairdresser for 10 years. Winner of the frist Miss Deaf Canada pageant in 1973. Enrolled in Gallaudet College, graduating 1981 with a B.S. and an M.A. in 1983. Worked as a guidance counselor at the Manitoba School for the Deaf from 1983 onward. In 1984, married Leonard Arthur Mitchell.
