Born at Freeport, IL; deafened at age 3 by meningitis; attended the Illinois School for the Deaf, graduating 1914. Graduated from Gallaudet College, 1919; coach at the Illinois School 1919-37; worked for U.S. Dept. of Agriculture 1937-64. Instrumental in U.S. participation in the International Games for the Deaf; president of the American Athletic Association of the Deaf, 1947-49; died in Alexandria, VA.
