Summary
Born deaf and with some physical disability at Winnipeg, MB; mainstreamed for a while but frustrated by communication difficulties. Transferred to a special class for deaf children, she was still frustrated from ostracization for her physical appearance. Finally transferred to and graduated the Manitoba school for the deaf, 1964-1976. Very briefly attended Gallaudet College but withdrew due to homesickness; instead took continuing classes at Red River Community College in her hometown. Employed in varous brief clerical positions, then as a cafeteria cashier for 7 years before becoming a rental clerk at the Deaf Centre of Manitoba from 1987 onward. Married Kenneth Anderson, also deaf, in 1999.
