Hearing. Born at Belleville, Ontario; graduated Albert College; after several teaching positions, became principal and then superintendent of the Pennsylvania School (Mt. Airy, Philadelphia). Was a charter member and a leader of the American Association to Promote the Teaching of Speech to the Deaf (now the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf).
