Sports
Summary
Attended the Northern Counties Institution for the Deaf and Dumb. Spotted in a junior league game, he was recruited to join the Wolverhampton Wanderers professional soccer team as right wing in 1933. The following year, Readman elected, perhaps unwisely, to transfer to another team as a free agent rather than stay with the Wanderers. Communication and attitude difficulties arose, and he ended his career as an undistinguished minor league player. No deaf person since has ever become a professional soccer player in Britain.
