Summary
Born deaf and blind; entered the Indiana School for the Deaf at age 10 in 1922. He received a personal tutor, Miss Newell, who succeeded in teaching him fingerspelling, Braille, and the printed alphabet. He stayed at the school until the superintendent announced, without explanation, in 1933 tht Liston would not be returning. Liston died of pneumonia four years later at age 25.
