Summary
Hearing. Published in 1819 a book, The Art of Instructing the Deaf and Dumb, in which he told of his attempts to home-school his deaf brother. Arrowsmith is primarily noted for being the first person to advocate teaching the deaf in regular schools rather than in separate special schools, and so is a forerunner of "mainstreaming".
