Summary
Born at Orillia, ON; deafened in kindergarten from spinal meningitis. Attended public schools as the only deaf student; received a cochlear implant at the age of 15, but it was not successful due to dangerous infection and had to be removed. Graduated University of Toronto in 1997 and earned a master's degree there the next year. Discovered Deaf culture and her Deaf identity and became a strong advocate for deaf people.
