Summary
Born in London. Age of onset of deafness uncertain (most biographies of him seem to ignore his deafness), but he was definitely hearing impaired: he referred to it in an 1882 letter to his mother. Since he appears to have had some physical abnormalities at birth, his deafness possibly was prenatal. Became a famous (and notorious) writer in Victorian England.
