Summary
Born deaf; attended and graduated from public schools, then attended Gallaudet College. A bad hurricane in the Washington, DC area in 1972, and the need to give emergency information to local deaf people, led a DC TV station to draft her for on-camera sign language announcements. This led to a regular morning signed news segment that lasted through the rest of the 1970s.
