Summary
Born at Niewer Amstel, Holland; family emigrated to Powell River, Canada in 1952, where he was deafened that same year from meningitis. Graduated Jericho Hill Provincial School for the Deaf, 1956-1962; graduated Gallaudet College (B.A., 1966); M.Sc. in 1972 from Simon Fraser University. Became a teacher at the Jericho Hill school 1970-1973 and Model Secondary School for the Deaf 1973-1980. Returning to Canada in 1980, decided to change his field and earned an LL.B. from the University of British Columbia, 1982-1985. In 1986, became Canada's third known deaf lawyer (the first since 1907), and the first one admitted to the bar. Married Leanor Henrietta Lindsay in 1967. Practices law in Vancouver, BC.
