Summary
Born hearing and late-deafened in adolescence. Adopted a deaf daughter as a single mother. Also later acquired mobility, visual, respiratory and psychiatric disabilities, using a wheelchair, but continued to raise the girl. Though culturally Deaf, she constantly felt the tension between general Deaf culture and its frequent nonacceptace of gays and of other disabilities, being openly gay outside the Deaf community but usually hiding it among other Deaf people.
