Born in Kansas; deaf at 3. Picked up a little learning from public schools before entering the Illinois School for the Deaf. Plans to enter college were abandoned when she was induced to stay at the school as assistant matron there. The next year, she was called to the Kansas School for the deaf as a teacher, working there 6 years. Married J. J. Dold (q.v.) in 1896.
