Summary
Born deaf in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, but grew up in Madison, WI. Mainstreamed through high school; entered the Rochester Institute of Technology and discovered her Deaf identity in cross-registered courses at NTID, and also her interest in art. Transferred to the Art Institute of Chicago as the only deaf student there, graduating 1991 and earning a master's in art education 1993. Taught English and art at NTID for 3 years, then taught art at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf. She is considered a member of the De'VIA movement.
