Summary
Born at Corner Brook, NF and deaf before age 4 from spinal meningitis. Halifax School for the Deaf 3 years, Mackay School for the Deaf 3 years, Interprovincial School for the Deaf 4 years, and finally the Newfoundland School for the Deaf 3 years, graduating 1968. Graduated Gallaudet College in 1973, the first Newfoundland Gallaudet graduate. Taught driver education for the provincial government, subjects at the Atlantic Techological Vocational Centre, home economics at Atlantic Province Resource Center for the Hearing Impaired, and from 1989 onward, taught ASL at the College of the North Atlantic and at Memorial University (St. John's, NF), as well as teaching junior high courses at the Newfoundland School for the Deaf from 1979 onward.
