Hearing. Born to deaf parents in Oneida County, NY; family moved to Iowa in 1864. Graduated Shutleff College. Taught at the Kansas school for the deaf beginning 1873. Taught at the Iowa Institution for the Deaf and Dumb 1883-1886, then became acting superintendent. Became principal in 1887 until resigning in 1898 to pursue business interests in Kansas City. Died suddenly while visiting Omaha, NE.
