Meding, _________ von (Fraulein, =Miss)

A deaf relative of Otto Benjamin Lasius (q.v.), who taught her to write and then other basic education. Her homemade sign language served as the first basis of communication, though Lasius also attempted to teach her how to speak. Eventually, she learned to write simple stories and read letters and to have some knowledge of things like arithmetic, geography, and religion.
