Summary
Born at Richland, IA; deaf at age 10, going for 4 years to the Iowa School for the deaf. Gallaudet College 1895-1900, and taught for a time at the Texas School for the deaf. Studied architecture on his own and aspired to become an architect, though apparently that never happened. Owner and editor of several North Carolina newspapers, most notably the Pender Chronicle and the Wilmington Post.
