Summary
Born at Chico, CA; deafened by scarlet fever at age 4; graduated the California School for the deaf in 1879 and taught there; studied in New York and Paris. Taught at the California School of Design and was instrumental in the beautification program of San Francisco; died at Berkeley. Major sculptures of his are on display in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
