Summary
Born at Elmira, NY; deaf at 3 from brain fever. Entered the Western New York Institution for the deaf at Rochester at age 9 until graduation in 1892. Appointed supervisor of boys at that school for 3 years, then resigned to return home and enter the upholstery business. Also learned embalming and other aspects of the undertaking profession.
