Summary
Hearing. Born at Kentish Town (London); entered Ealing Training College in 1881, leaving in 1884 as a trained oral teacher of the deaf using the oral method; founded her own oral school for the deaf in 1885 at Upper Norwood (London). The school moved several times during the subsequent years until settling in its Dene Hollow location in 1916. It stayed there until after Hare's death, then moved again to its current location at Arlington House, Newbury in 1949; it is now called the Mary Hare Grammar School for the Deaf. Mary Hare taught at and administered the school for over 60 years unti her death. Biography is The Lady in Green (1999).
