Summary
Born at Brigham City, UT, but family moved to Kansas. Entered the Kansas School for the deaf at age 10, for 10 years, leaving in 1892. Came to Salt Lake City, worked briefly in a shoe factory until economic depression forced him out. Began a small shoe repair shop in Terrace, UT, which gradually grew into a large leather retail and repair store. Married Theresa Rasche in 1899. The Reference below includes what may be the first published description of a "hearing ear" dog.
