Summary
Born in Washington DC; deafened by scarlet fever at age 2 1/2. Attended the Kendall School for the Deaf, St. Mary's School for the Deaf (Buffalo, NY) and St. John's Institute (Milwaukee, WI). Studied at Gallaudet College for one year, then the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, then the Art Institute of Chicago. Became a modeler at the Smithsonian Institute, in addition to doing portrait busts on his own time; one such portrait bust, of Edward Miner Gallaudet, is in Chapel Hall, Gallaudet University. Selected from an international competition to do a statue of the Abbe de l'Epee in France. Died at Westport, CT.
