Summary
Deafened at three months by scarlet fever. Initially rejected by several dental schools because of his deafness, eventually completed the New York Dental College and entered private dental practice. Also held a private pilot's license, earned in 1939. Moving force behind the invention of the TTY acoustic coupler and the development of the TTY system of telecommunications for the deaf.
