Deaf at age 20 from benign tumors on the auditory nerves. Attended the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, earning a B.S. in biology there. M.S. in deaf education from Western Maryland College. Worked as a laboratory technician at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY while enrolled in an M.S. program in computer systems at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
