Summary
Born at Billings, MT; grew up on an urban Indian reservation in Lame Deer, MT. Indian name translates as Traveling Morning Star. Deaf at 6 months from spinal meningitis; first language was American Indian Sign Language, ASL coming later. Attended Montana School for the Deaf and Blind 1964-1976 and Seattle Community College (AA degree 1978). Employed as a filter coredrill technician, cutting optic glass. Served as a firefighter on the reservation for 5 years and also worked for the Montana Highway and Road Department. Founding member of the Intertribal Deaf Council.
