Summary
Born at Leitersburg, MD; deafened at age 11 or 12 by scarlet fever; attended the Maryland School for the deaf; first woman graduate of Gallaudet College (1892); teacher at the North Dakota School for the deaf 1892-1893, then unemployed until teaching at the Maryland School from 1897 to her marriage to John Kavanaugh. Lowman Street on the Gallaudet University campus is named in her honor.
