Summary
Hearing. As a member of the Economic Society of Spain, was appointed to the governing board of the Royal School for Deaf-Mutes, where he eventually developed ideas and plans for oral education of the deaf. Appointed headmaster of the School in 1814, he forced it to convert from sign language to a strictly oral system. Political ideologies forced him to flee to Gibraltar in 1823; he died in exile.
