Summary
Born deaf. At first refused by two seminaries due to his deafness, was finally ordained a Catholic priest in Sept. 1951, the first one to have been born deaf and the second deaf man to have become a Catholic priest; resident of Juiz de Fora. Said to lipread and speak fluently in 5 languages: Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, and English.
