Summary
Son of John Blount (q.v.); born deaf at the Kentucky School for the Deaf. Went to the Kentucky School 1869-1874, transferring to the Indiana School for the deaf when his father took a new job there, graduating in 1879. Learned shoemaking in school and tried his hand at it after graduation, but, dissatisfied, went into cigarmaking instead. In 1886, appointed to a teacher position in the Kentucky School. Married Mattie L. Robinson in 1894.
