Summary
Born in Garland, TX; deaf at about 18 months of age from hereditary causes. Attended both private and mainstreamed schools, then entered Gallaudet College, but transferred to University of Texas at Austin, graduating there with a BFA. Also earned a certificate in engineering design graphics at Austin Community College. Worked as a technical illustrator, computer graphics designer, and computer graphics coordinator for three different Texas companies. Earned a master's degree in education, then a Ph.D. in Multicultural Special Education from the University of Texas.
