Summary
Pseudonym of Eugenie John. Born at Arnstadt, Thuringen, Germany; progressive deafness beginning in childhood forced her to abandon her talent for and aspirations in music. She devoted herself to writing instead, becoming a popular novelist in the romantic genre. Calcification of the joints over many years forced her into using a wheelchair, but she continued her writing until her death.
