Summary
Resident of Newfoundland; sent to a school for the deaf in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he had to commute by ship, beginning in 1916 at the age of 5. In early 1918, he was traveling from St. John's, NF, to Halifax on the S.S. Florizel when it was shipwrecked by an error in navigation during a storm; Clarence, his father, and an accompanying deaf girl, Blanche Beaumont, drowned in the disaster. Clarence's body was never found.
