Summary
Born at Port Austin, MI; deaf and blind in one eye at 1 from sunstroke. Entered the Michigan School for the Deaf at 13. Afterwards, took a correspondence course in art. 1900, worked as a "pyro-decorator", going into business for himself the following year. In 1902, appointed assistant teacher of drawing in the Michigan School.
