Summary
Born in England; deaf at 18 months from scarlet fever and whooping cough. Moved to Canada and attended the Manitoba School for the Deaf in Winnipeg; spent 1 year at Gallaudet College, then worked for the U.S. Government Printing Office for 25 years. Had no formal training in art; his works are usually made of different kinds of wood from around the world, combining carving, tesselation, sculpture, and painting. Most is in the form of animals.
