A Graeco-Roman wrestler; reportedly the first deaf competitor in the regular Olympic Games when he took a silver medal in the XV Olympics, 1952. He also won the world title in Greco-Roman flywieght division in 1955, a silver medal in the XVI Olympics, 1956, tied for 5th place in the XVII Olympics, 1960, and tied for 4th place in the XVIII Olympics, 1964.
