Summary
Hearing; a Sephardic Jew. Claimed to be the first teacher of the deaf in France. Began teaching the deaf by teaching his deaf-born sister to speak. Aristocrats sent their deaf children to him, and eventually word of his skill reached the French king, who asked him to instruct a deaf godson, Saboreaux de Fontenay (q.v.). His teaching methods, which he considered proprietary and secret, died with him.
