Summary
Born deaf in Shanghai, China; his parents recognized his art talent early and hired an art tutor for him. He and his family fled to Hong Kong at the Communist takeover of China. He had his first art exhibition at age 12 in Hong Kong, and continued to study art under noted Chinese artists. After a short time as a commercial artist, he began supporting himself entirely as a freelance painter. Moved to Hawaii in 1977 and became an American citizen.
