Summary
Born deaf at Seattle, WA; attended an oral school for the deaf, then mainstreamed during high school. Attended the program for the deaf at California State University, Northridge, and became interested in acting at that time. Acted in various minor productions, then produced, directed, and wrote for D.E.A.F. Media the Emmy-winning PBS children's TV series Rainbow's End. Joined the National Theatre for the Deaf 1980-1982, and taught theater at three schools. His proposal for a Star Trek: The Next Generation TV episode with a deaf character was accepted and produced with him guest-starring (Loud as a Whisper, 1989). He also co-starred in the internationally-acclaimed, award-winning German film Jenseits der Stille (Beyond Silence, 1997), learning German Sign Language for that role. His younger brother Billy is also a deaf actor.
