Deafness diagnosed in infancy; hearing school ages 5-7, then transferred to the Kelston School for the Deaf. Mainstreamed without assistance into Kelston High School and quit after fifth form. Enrolled in a hairdressing school and worked as a hairdresser for a time before becoming a data entry operator. Married, then divorced a deaf man.
