Summary
Corwin was her married name; maiden surname unknown. Deaf at age 10, but continued in hearing public schools until 17, then transferred to the Indiana Institution for the Deaf and Dumb for 2 years until she graduated. Was immediately appointed a teacher in the Indiana School, serving there 24 years. Declined an offer to become the first deaf woman principal of a state school for the deaf (at Indiana) to take a teaching position in the Missouri School for the deaf from 1896 on.
