Summary
Hearing. First encounted deaf persons as a teenaged counselor at a Boy Scout summer camp in Nebraska; later worked as a houseparent at the Nebraska School for the Deaf and taught at the California School for the Deaf, Berkeley, and Rochester School for the Deaf before coming to Kendall School for the Deaf, 1940. Completed master's degree at Gallaudet College, 1941; joined the Army during World War II, working with soldiers who lost their hearing during combat. Returned to Gallaudet 1945-1962, teaching English and then chairing the preparatory department. Louisiana School for the Deaf as principal, 1962-1965, then Florida School for the Deaf 1965-1970. Professor of technical English at National Technical Institute for the Deaf, 1970 until retirement to Frederick, MD in 1986.
