Summary
At the 1922 Convention of American Instructors of the Deaf, she refuted a hearing person's insistence that all the deaf could learn to lipread school classes and chapel addresses. Although deaf and an expert lipreader herself, she spoke orally in opposition from the stage, and demonstrated that even the expert lipreaders present could not lipread everything she said without voice.
