McKinney, J. Charlie

Born at Liberty, SC; attended the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (graduated 1960), Gallaudet College (graduated 1965), and New York University. After first teaching the deaf in New York for 6 years, then working as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in South Carolina, he became an actor in an internationally-traveling deaf theater company. Simultaneously, he was executive director of the South Carolina Association of the Deaf.
